Olympic Anniversary

The team who delivered Vancouver Olympic ceremonies, David Atkins Enterprises pitched a great concept for the Anniversary party. It didn’t happen – for whatever reason. I produced a series of concept illustrations that were used in the pitch to depict the event. Here are few of those…

Mon Pays boards

This is an act that, although well designed, directed and choreographed, didn’t get into the Vancouver Olympics Opening Ceremony. It is based on Gilles Vigneault’s song Mon Pays. The look of the motion graphics for the piece is inspired by Quebec painters Lemeiux, Barbeau, Borduas as well as NFB animators McLaren, Larkin, Leaf, Bochner etc. Here are the storyboards for the song (design frames at the same time) that were supposed to be projected on the central Field of Play.

Art of 2010 Olympic Opening

Work on the Olympic Opening Ceremony has been one of a kind experience. The volume of work on each member of the team has been massive, the formats are on mega scale and the level of quality of work very high…

2010 Opening Book

2010 Opening Book

I am glad I was given a chance to design the Vancouver 2010 Opening Ceremony Program Book. The book is printed in black only with about a dozen spreads in black and silver. The motifs of each spread are graphically abstracted versions of any given segments, inspired by either the mood or the story of the segment itself, as well as the quotes, narrated during the show by Donald Sutherland. Two distinct graphical look serve, first, Protocol part (shallow relief, impasto painting with white/grey paint on white canvas) and second Cultural part of the show (futuristic mystical 3D strokes printed in black and silver ink)

End papers of the book served to connect the book’s styles with VANOC’s core fusion.
