Vancouver Convention Centre

If you are a Vancouverite, you can take a free one hour guided tour of the Vancouver Convention Centre, just call them to check for available times. Team of designers from my company recently used the opportunity and visited this quite spectacular building in our neighbourhood. Many things are cool about the building: the architecture, the interior design, the sustainability factor, the selected art, the materials, the colours - but the scale is THE element that will for sure amaze anyone. The ballrooms are the biggest enclosed spaces I have seen, yet they still feel very intimate. Good job LMNArchitects, MCM Architects and DA Architects + Planners

Events Concept Art

Creating concept illustrations for an event is an interesting thing. Events take place at the existing venues, therefore a photo or even a 3D model of the space already exists. What’s needed is an exciting painted overlay. It is almost like painting 3D white boxes into something believable, if not realistic. Actually believable is far more exciting than realistic.

Here is an example of a series of illustrations for an event, with the raw photos and the painted overlay.

Here are just a few of logo designs that I have developed over the years. Some of them have been in use in public, some for internal or pitch purposes.

Logo for global rafting hub

Logo for a big resort master plan pitch in Greece

Logo for Minor League Hockey team in Greater Vancouver area.

Logo, branding development and website (crystaldental.com) for the dental office in Metrotown, Burnaby. Logo design is based on letters C and D, connected in a way that present multylayered tooth (molar) structure as well as a heart – tagline of the office is “In the hearth of Metrowon”

Project Earth was envisioned as an Canada based environmental attraction and this logo was created for the concept pitch. It a set of repeating abstracted shapes in a natural fractal progression of golden section. At the same time there is a strong gesture of hugging, communicating conservation.

Building houses and buildings is what Malaga based construction company does. Slabserif is a great type kind to depict structure, stability and cleanness, as well as great base for a slight custimizaton.

London Xplores is another concept, this time for a traveling attraction. Logo is based around the letter X (x marks the spot) and it plays with clean sans of London Subway and the classic serif font in X’s negative space, creating strong recognition of the British flag.

Logo done for online game myfrog.ca. Unfortunately logo wasn’t used in it’s entirety in a final product.

Del Futuro is web development studio I love to work with. This design plays on subliminal futuristic feeling through the choice of the font and a small customization at the end of the type.

Being green and connecting back to nature is all sweet and cute but serious approach require some serious knowledge of the world that surrounds us. Lack of it can pose a treat to an individual who would confront a wild or even domestic animal.

The animated series Facts of (Sheep) Life is here to help. It is focused on a small segment of nature and provides essential facts about life of a fascinating creature – sheep. Yes, we all know that sheep inhabit the ground and that they are stupid and that they consume grass, but how, when, and where those basic facts come into play and how they turn into magnificent wonders of the living world – you will find out from this footage, never before recorded and presented.

Connect back to nature – down to earth, grass consuming, stupid nature!
